Fabric Cost Calculation

Preparation

Before you can calculate the total cost of all fabric consumption, a few preparations have to be made. You must enter the price per unit for each fabric you use.

Let us illustrate this with an example:
(see also at link "Fabric Price")

First, it is important to set the correct currency, this is under Preference Settings and remember that only one currency is valid during the whole calculation session. There is also no way to convert from one currency to another.

Suppose your patchwork needs three different fabrics. Whereby you buy two of the new fabrics and the third is a remnant of your old stocks.

you bought:

  1. FAB$ _1 $ 5 yards for 57.4 dollars
  2. FAB$ _2 $ 2 ½ yards for 29.90 dollars
  3. FAB$ _3 $ and for the third one, you suppose an amount of $8.00 per yard

And so you enter the values2)3):

Keystroke Display Note
2nd + AC 0 Clear All
Conv + 1 FAB$ _1 $ 0 in Set FAB$ _1 $ as the current fabric
5 + yard + 2nd + × FAB$ _1 $ length 5 yd Set length of FAB$ _1 $
5 + 7 + + 4 + 2nd + 9 FAB$ _1 $ price 11.48 $/yd Calulates the price per unit
Conv + 2 FAB$ _2 $ 0 in Set FAB$ _2 $ as the current fabric
2 + yard + 1 + a b/c + 2 + 2nd + × FAB$ _2 $ length 2+1/2 yd Set length of FAB$ _2 $
2 + 9 + + 9 + 2nd + 9 FAB$ _2 $ price 11.96 $/yd Calulates the price per unit
Conv + 3 FAB$ _3 $ 0 in Set FAB$ _3 $ as the current fabric
8 + 2nd + 9 FAB$ _3 $ price 8.00 $/yd Calulates the price per unit 4)

Calculation

After you have entered all settings and fabric values correctly, we can start with the calculation of the total cost.

That's pretty easy. Now save all fabric-yardages in the designated memory locations and then press the button for cost.

The following table illustrates the procedure for our example if you had the following consumption:

  1. FAB$ _1 $ 3.5 yards
  2. FAB$ _2 $ 2 ¼ yards
  3. FAB$ _3 $ 48 inches
Keystroke Display Note
3 + + 5 + yard + 2nd + 1 FAB$ _1 $ 3+1/2 yd Save yardage for FAB$ _1 $
2 + yard + 1 + a b/c + 4 + 2nd + 2 FAB$ _2 $ 2+1/4 yd Save yardage for FAB$ _2 $
4 + 8 + inch + 2nd + 3 FAB$ _3 $ 48 in Save yardage for FAB$ _3 $
2nd + = total price 77.76 $ Calulate the summ of FAB$ _1 $ +…+ FAB$ _3 $ costs
2)
we assume that in the Preference Settings dollar and fraction units (FRAC) was chosen.
3)
This is also the ideal time to adjust fabric width and selvedge if they differ from the default values. (see Fabric Default Values)
4)
If you chose “metric units” in Preference Settings, the unit would have been meters otherwise it's always yards.
